Waaaay back in 1990, Cher starred in a movie called Mermaids that included “The Shoop Shoop Song,” which went on to be a huge hit. Well, Kate Beckinsale is here with her own spin on the song and the iconic mermaid content you didn’t know you needed.
In a new Instagram video, Kate and a buddy are wearing mermaid tails while lounging poolside and shaking it to "The Shoop Shoop Song." While she gets her mermaid on, Kate shows off her incredibly toned arms and abs, shaking and shimmying to the song (with her tail flapping, of course).
“Shoop Shoop #cher,” Kate captioned the video. Obviously, Kate's fans were all over the video in the comments. “Obsessed!!!!!! Love it, need it,” one person wrote. “She is everything + more 🧜♀️ 🐆 💃🏽🔥,” another said. "Mermaid Kate activated! 🧜♀️," a third commented.
Of course, the 49-year-old doesn’t screw around in the gym. Her trainer, Brad Siskind, told Women’s Health that “the whole hour is work” when he trains Kate.
What, exactly, do they do to get Kate feeling so strong? While the duo certainly mixes things up, Kate told WH that she usually kicks things off with a full-body workout of eight compound exercises, with each exercise working two muscle groups at the same time. Some examples include bicep curls with a squat or sit-ups with combination punches.
After that, it’s on to 90- to 120-second cardio intervals, like rowing or doing the VersaClimber, before moving on to eight compound exercises again, but this time with heavier weights, bands, or faster reps. Kate will wrap that section up with another cardio interval that uses a rubber Inertia Wave, or one-leg pushes on a curved SkillMill treadmill.
When she’s not at the gym, Kate might take a LEKFit class, which involves trampolining with the guidance of an app. “It makes you feel kind of jolly!” she says of jumping on the trampoline. She also might take an online yoga class, showing off her impressive flexibility:
Kate eats well to fuel her workouts. She’ll usually chow down on some kind of protein before she exercises, like chicken or eggs with grass-fed butter, followed by dishes like salads with radishes, Brussels sprouts, and safflower oil and salmon.
While Kate told WH she originally started working out to get in shape, she now views it as important for her mental health. “Exercise is almost more important to me moodwise,” she said. “The other aspects feel like a great side effect.”
