The team’s annual intrasquad Peaches Cup goes Saturday at the SOEC

Everything is back to normal in Penticton Vees’ world now that Fred has been freed.

Fred Harbinson, the team’s head coach, general manager and president, has returned to his work duties after a successful ‘Free Fred from the Treadmill’ season-ticket campaign in which 36 new year-long stubs were sold.

The reigning B.C. Hockey League Coach of the Year was forced to jog on a treadmill Wednesday morning and wasn’t allowed to depart the machine until 30 season tickets were sold outside the South Okanagan Events Centre.

“We also had a few people, businesses and groups buy season tickets and donate them to deserving families for the season,” Amanda Lysohirka, the team’s director of ticketing and merchandise, wrote to the Western News in an email.

Harbinson was on the treadmill from 9 a.m. and through the afternoon.

The team sold seven new season tickets in the first hour of the campaign.
